Lighted LEGO Fidget Spinner
Fidget spinners are a toy craze these days, and many tutorials on the internet show how
to build LEGO versions. I wanted to make my own LEGO spinner, but with Light Bricks added. Since
the Light Bricks add significant weight to the spinner, I chose to base my design on ball bearings
glued into a Circular Plate (4 x 4 with 2 x 2 Hole, part number 11833). I purchased ball bearings
from www.vxb.com, where I found either part number 12925 ($5.77) or R-1650 ($5.77) to work well.
I attached four Light Bricks in different colors to the spinner. In the video above, a red and green
set are spun. The result at high spin rate is yellow circle, with the green and red blending together.
However, the video frame rate makes the circle appear broken into segments. Then in the video at the
bottom is a fast color changing LED being spun. The color changing and blinking of this LED
create interesting dashed patterns when spinning. Instructions on making custom-color LEDs are in
Chapter 2 of LEGO Optics and kits are in the Marketplace entry on my blog.
